Published May 2, 2010 by Nerdy_Faery

OMG! Sorry for the lateness!

Thank you guys so much for entering the contest- I loooved every answer posted in there. =)

Eek– *insert dramatic song* And the winner is: #2-> Arianna, who said:

To me, what makes a person attractive is that moment when your standing or sitting down….and you turn around because your friend says that cute guy is staring at you. So you look over and he smiles at you & you smile back. That smile is what makes the person attractive. A smile can say so much, that a frown can never say.

Congratsies Arianna! Hope you like… Sorry, I am sure you are going to love this book! It is awesome, and Simon is all sorts of yummy, not to mention that Mr. Strout is one great author. Please send me your address to: ale_bodden11 (at) hotmail (dot) com

I got a prezzie–> Another copy of Dead to Me by Anton Strout. So, given the fact that I already have this book I am choosing to share the goodness with you guys. Though now I wonder, is that the reason as to why I am getting books I already have lately? hmm… Now I feel like a pimp– Soooo, let me go straight to the point.

Dead To Me (Simon Canderous, #1)

As you guys all know [if you read my ramblings, that is] I love the Simon Canderous Series, it was like my real first time Urban Fantasy [Not in a cherry popping way, thank you very much ;-)] and what a great intro to the UF world it was. With a great male lead [Simon is awesome– except for the one on Twitter, he’s mean ❤ LOL,] snarky, witty… You pick, but it is a good book and I think I should share [or pimp] the goodness, right? Here is what you need to do, answer me this question:

What makes someone attractive? [Features, personality… What makes you digg someone] =)

-US and Canada only

-Just comment once, please!

-Make sure to check back because winner will be posted here.

It will run until April 30th, 11:59:59 and I shall post the winner on May 1st, is that okie? Good!

Good Luck to everyone!

Author Appreciation Week, Day 1- J. Morgan & Anton Strout

Published March 15, 2010 by Nerdy_Faery

As you guys might or might not know, this is the first official day of the Author Appreciation Week, which was proclaimed by Heidi R. Kling over Twitter on Saturday [I think it was] and you can see the whole post on her LJ HERE! The main point is to show some love in direction of those writers who have provided us with the most fabulous escape– Books, the written world! And for all those nights you guys spent writing, and editing those manuscripts, I want you to know that I am eternally gratefull that you shared them with us [fans.] Thank you for giving us great part of your time, and helping us forget reality for a bit.

Today– Day 1, I have two very speshul authors:

J. Morgan & Anton Strout

In no particular order [since both of them are completely amazing] I will start with:

J. Mo!!

I stumbled across J. Mo. quite some time ago over facebook. Before adding him, I searched for his books, and I read How Wickeder Can She Go? [Which I loved– Just sayin’] and after that the only question hanging was: “How can I not add him?” I mean, c’mon– If you read his books, you will understand what I mean [can you not see it on the picture?? Pretty obvious if you ask me; and look, it is a Sponge Bob Cake!]. The guy is as funny as they get and the books reflect that perfectly! There was no time when I stopped laughing when I read what he writes.

Now with last, but not least:

Anton Strout
(Mr. Strout, Can I use this picture, please? TYVM)

Okay, I think y’all understand why I chose this picture *giggles*– I mean, how can you not like something that an author like him [cough-zombie-cough] writes? I am sure he writes from personal experience, being a zombie and all… But seriously now, getting Anton’s Dead To Me was the hardest task ever, and getting to meet him at the NYC ComicCon was even worst– Long story short, I did not get to meet him those days. But I am glad I kept on trying because Simon is now my fictional boyfriend [I do not think he knows, neither does Jane.] Like J. Mo, his books are filled with humor, and most importantly–> Sarcasm, snarkiness, and wittiness! Awesome much? And to top it of, he even signed my Dead Matter copy as the Diva– even after my stalking and bugging! *Grin*

Both, J. Mo and Anton apart from being great writers are amazing people and inspiring role models [at least for me, working and writing at the same time is not an easy task, but they both manage,] not to mention that they are completely patient when I find them lurking over FB and ask them for some sort of advice! Thank you, dear authors, for being so amazing and sharing your time with me and your other fans. Thank you for giving me [us] the most amazing present anyone can give me [us]– an escape in Bookland! I wish you both the best of the best and lots of success and happiness! Hope you can feel the love from this “humble” fan over here -heehee *hides pies behind her back waiting for them to come forward and smash it in their faces*-. *hugs to both*

Some might ask why is it that I like their books so much, and being honest– apart from the awesome sauce spilled on those written words, their books appeared in a moment that… lets say that they each came at the right moment! And they helped me in some way, even if at moments it was just with laughter. Like I say, even the smallest help is help at least. So I sincerely thank you both– So much! X’s and O’s!

Anton Strout and Amber Benson’s Joint Signing

Published February 28, 2010 by Nerdy_Faery

Yesterday -February 27th, 2010- was AWESOME [for lack of a better word.] I met up with Jen (@undeadapproved), we had lunch and then hung out until it was time for—THE SIGNING!

YES! Amber Benson and Anton Strout’s joint signing at Midtown Comics.

First is first though, Jen and I met up early. Now, I do not mean early in a 9am fashion, I mean early like at 12:00pm. We went out to eat something [BBQ’s babeh.] Let me just say that I lurv this girl. I almost cried happy tears just because I had someone to talk books with, and also be a fangirl with. And when I say talk books with, I mean it; you have no idea how many books and authors we discussed… And video games as well, well, she did and I took mental notes on which ones to buy.

We walked to Midtown Comics and our dearest authors were not there yet. So, what to do then? Buy some stuff then go out and walk around for a bit. We visited a Candy Store, can you say “Yummeh,” please and thank you very much? [nope, not the one from the 50 Cents song =P.] We also went to this awesomely amazing Japanese bookstore where I wanted to buy gazillions of stuff, and ended up buying nothing *shame.*

By 2:30-ish, we decided that it was time to head back to Midtown Comics to get in line—Just in case… And good thing we did that, because by the time when we got there again there was already a fairly ‘long’ line. Okay, not that long, but it was for us. Why? Because we were in the cold, waiting… and waiting… and waiting… [it keeps going and going for more than an hour.] All that time was spent laughing our asses off [at least I did,] listening to weird/random/funny as hell- snippets of conversations, complaining about the cold, and coming up with funny stuff that would be great to see them for real *wink wink.* Oh, and my twittering.

Now I feel mean though *snort.* My tweets were about what was going on during the waiting time. Now imagine: Jen and me, trying to protect ourselves from the horrible cold that was chilling out bones. Also laughing at something the girl in front of us said [Girl: Her personality is like syphilis… C’mon, you gotta admit, it is a good analogy.] So, the correct thing to do [at least in my world] is-> 1st: Start calling our dear author Mr. Strout a Diva [all in good fun though,] and 2nd: Tweet about it. Here is my Tweet Feed:

• Gee… @antonstrout is such a diva! *Grin* standing in line with @undeadapproved [it] is cold.. They are torturing us, making us beg for entry.
•
http://twitpic.com/15oy8k – In line… Cold… With @undeadapproved
• So… Just heard the diva [aka] @antonstrout is doing so interviews… Fiirst we [were] not invited (@undeadapproved) 2nd- that’s why we are freezing *g*
• It is all in good fun @
undeadapproved and @antonstrout (aka The DIVAAA!) LOL

*Grin* I know… I ‘is’ mean [sometimes.] But hey, he has to thank me [or the guy that let us in at the moment] because I did not post this one: “Our feet are freezing, toes are falling any minute now, cannot feel my limbs… @antonstrout will have to kiss out boots, or in @undeadapproved’s case—sneakers. LOL.” Yes, we truly are the fangirls everyone wishes they could have. *Evil Laugh*

We went in; I had my sockey-monkey in hand. While in line, we see our dear authors talking calmly to some other fans when Jen says something like this:

Jen: Hey, wouldn’t it be cool to start throwing paper balls at Anton.
Ale: *Mischievous grin* YES! *Starts looking for some piece of paper*
Jen: ::Laughs::
Ale: Dang, I can’t find anything… *Looks at sockey-monkey* Hey, I can throw my monkey.
Jen: No, don’t throw the monkey… You are mean!

I just wanted to point this out: I am the Mean one?? *ROTFLMAO* She was the one who gave the idea; I just resorted to different methods.

All in all it went fantastic. Both Amber Benson and Anton Strout are lovely. I was dared, by Jen, to act like a fangirl and cry. I did the fangirl part, but I forgot to cry. Amber liked my kitty ears and my kitty bookmark *grin.* And the best part? When Jen gave Anton his prezzie. It was an adorable Simon (HERE) and Anton’s childlike excitement when opening it. It was quite funny because they were trying to identify the character; and when Jen told them it was Simon, their faces were priceless. And the afterward Tweets:

• Just met @antonstrout and @amber_benson with @undeadapproved awesome! Beware Anton, fan appreciation day coming– soon, mwahahaha!
• Oh noes! @
undeadapproved, I forgot to make @antonstrout take a pic with my sockey-monkey ::sulks:: lmao… I had fun, thank you! Xoxoxo
• Signing was phenomenal @
amber_benson is a sweetheart and @antonstrout is… Anton -lol…. Just jk… They are both made of awesome! 🙂

I think that the guy behind us in line was pissed because we talked to them for a bit and took pics with Anton. But I could not care less *MWAHAHHAA.* Hey, it was our turn after all the waiting; and we got there before he did! =) But like I said; I had an amazing time with Jen [we should do that again soon.] And Amber and Anton are amazingly awesome as well. If you did not go—you have no idea of what you missed =P hehe.

Trust me, it is awesome to go to a signing with someone who is there for the same exact reason.

And I think that is it… I got a question: Why is it that you like Anton Strout’s book that much?… But I am afraid that that is a story for another day because this blog is already long enough as it is! =)

For the pics you can go HERE! On my LJ ^-^

And yeah, that was our day! ^-^ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Hopefully soo, again!

 Thanks for reading!

Dead Matter

Published February 24, 2010 by Nerdy_Faery
Dead Matter by Anton Strout

• Paperback: 336 pages
• Publisher: Ace (February 23, 2010)
 ISBN-10: 0441018440
• ISBN-13: 978-0441018444

When the paranormal raises its ugly head in New York City, the Department of Extraordinary Affairs executes a flawless smackdown. That’s the idea anyway, and Agent Simon Canderous can usually count on help from his mentor, Connor Christos. But Connor’s left Simon to handle a double case load as he cashes in on five years worth of saved vacation time. Simon suspects that Connor isn’t Club Medding so much as Club Deading it up — using his talents as a ghost whisperer investigating the disappearance of his long lost brother.

The spirit populace of Manhattan doesn’t appreciate its well-deserved R.I.P being disturbed, and Simon is sent in to do damage control. Connor is in a sorry state, and he tells Simon that each night he’s being haunted by visions of his brother at his window. Simon is worried that his partner may be going crazy — or worse, maybe he’s not…

After being surprised by some unknown creature while grocery shopping for Taco Night with Jane, Simon realizes there is something fishy going up in town [again.] And with Connor having certain visions at night and being in such a deplorable state, Simon begins to worry. Thinking that his partner is loosing his marbles, he decides to go and do some researching [and spying] on his own. From that moment on, action ensues and all sorts of surprises come to light. What happened to Connor and his brother all those years ago finally is explained; and after quite some time of not seeing vampires in New York City, our dear Simon is up for a shocker that will turn his life around.

With a beginning that deludes us into thinking that things might get easier for our lovely hero, Simon Canderous, but Anton Strout is quick to erase that notion. Starting with a “BANG,’ the book keeps going that way with good pace, and never disappoints. We can see how much better Mr. Strout’s writing has gotten, making Dead Matter his best book by far!

Here we get into Simon’s head more than before, knowing more about him, and how he has grown to be such a responsible man. This, without getting rid of the wittiness and snark that characterizes him, and keeping up the humor at all times. We also get to meet a lot of new characters that make the story even more enthralling. Furthermore, Connor’s weakness comes to light, and due to some mishaps, Jane does not appear much in the story. Though the fact that their love is enough to conquer it all shines through with no cheesiness.

I can safely say that flirting with the guy in Costumer Service at B&N, to get Dead Matter the day before it came out, was totally worth it. I kept reading all night even when my PM medicine was knocking me out, and sneaked the book into my Italian class to finish it. This book exceeded all my expectations and, like I said, it is the best one so far. It kept me laughing most of the time, and if not, it was because I kept biting my nails wondering what was going to happen. Loved the book, and love Simon even more now! *grin*

Take it from me, this book is going to blow your brains… So, why not go and get it? NOW!!
